Kids Eyes Oklahoma

Part of a child’s healthy development is ensuring they have good eyesight. While there is no guarantee your child will have perfect vision, regular eye exams for kids will not only help identify early vision problems but may also help prevent certain eye issues that could tumbleweed into something major.

This 2021, let’s commit to ensuring you do everything in your power to keep your child’s eyes healthy. Let’s take a look at a few tips you should follow.

Healthy Diet
The most important aspect of keeping your child’s vision healthy is giving them a healthy diet. You should give them a wide array of foods such as vegetables, fruits, eggs, meat, and fish to improve their eye health. Instead of letting them binge eat processed foods, you can try creating homemade snacks that are tasty and healthy.

Drink Plenty Of Water
Water is vital for hydration and good eye health. It also helps in cleaning the eyes so make sure you give your child at least four glasses of water to drink daily. If you notice your child’s eyes are sticky when they wake up, visit a children’s eye specialist as this could be a sign of infection.

Proper Sleep
Good health is also dependent on sufficient sleep. It helps relax the eyes and body and lessens the stress on the vision. Make sure your child follows a regular sleep routine for good eye health.

Regular Check-Up
Whether or not your child has vision problems, make it a point to conduct an eye exam for Oklahoma kids at least twice a year. This ensures they do not suffer from vision problems and even if they do need corrective glasses, it is given to them at an early stage. This helps them outgrow the glasses eventually.

Limit Screen Time
In a day and age where everything is digital, you can’t take away a smartphone, computer, or tablet from your child. However, you can limit the number of hours a child spends staring at these devices. The smartest thing to do would be to give them frequent short bursts of these devices so they don’t miss it throughout the day.

You should also look out for warning signs such as rubbing of the eyes, irritation, swelling, or slight redness. If you notice any of these signs, make sure you opt for a free children’s eye test at the earliest. It’s also important to protect your child’s eyes at all times. When moving out, make your child wear UV filtered sunglasses that are recommended during the children’s eye exam.
