ABOUT US

Vizavance, formerly Prevent Blindness Oklahoma is the only non-profit agency dedicated exclusively to advancing children’s education through better vision in the state of Oklahoma.

Children’s Vision Screening is the cornerstone program of Vizavance, formerly Prevent Blindness Oklahoma. No child should lose their sight or develop lifelong vision problems because they never received a vision screening. The Vizavance screening process includes: Distance Visual Acuity Screening (Chart), Near Vision Test, Color Vision Test, Stereopsis Test, and the SPOT Vision Screener Camera.

Established in 1965, Vizavance serves all 77 counties and provides free vision screenings for children at public and private schools, preschools, Head Starts, and daycare centers. Vizavance intervention does not stop there; follow‐ups are made, and if financial assistance is needed for these children, we provide the resources necessary for free eye exams and prescription glasses by an eye care professional.

But did you know that 25% of school-aged children have vision problems that impact their learning? Fortunately, many vision problems — from minor to severe — can be prevented or corrected with early intervention.

Vizavance continued to screen nearly 200,000 children and referred 12% of them to eye-care professionals for further evaluation, even with COVID-19 challenges and school closures.

We achieve these results without federal or state funding. Vizavance relies on the generosity of foundations, corporations, grantors, and individuals.
